For the second year in a row, our Girls Varsity Volleyball team successfully made it to CIF Playoffs!
The girls fought hard all season, making it to playoffs despite a 13-24 record and coming off a lot of forfeits–7 of which, however, were wins. “We bounced back pretty well,” Parys Taylor, an outside hitter and middle on the team, told me.
Their first and unfortunately last playoff game was against the Girls Volleyball Team at Gahr High School, where they lost by a score of 3 sets to 0. Taylor told me that despite not coming out with a win, the team made valiant efforts to stay in the game. “Something that we do well is push points when we are down. We’re really good at closing gaps in the score,” she commented.
Though the season has come to an end, the girls have definitely been improving over the last few seasons. In 2021, they went to the playoffs, and just last year, the team made it to CIF Championships, successfully breaking a twenty-year streak of no playoff wins. The team's progress and improvement over the years are both impressive and apparent.
There are many things to be improved, though, Taylor told me during our interview. She emphasized that one of the most major things that has gotten in the way of their ability to play is “that, sometimes, we can get in our heads. But when we start to become more in tune with each other, we play really well.”
Despite having a few setbacks, our Girls Volleyball players are still an incredibly skilled group of students. There is no doubt in my mind that they will continue to improve their talent and come back even stronger in the following years. Congratulations, and great job, Cowboys!
