The prices of your groceries begin to skyrocket,
But you have more than enough to cover it,
So you continue to buy in bulk,
Blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
Your co-worker can no longer afford
to leave her child at daycare,
So she loses her job,
But you continue to work,
No skepticism clouding your expression,
Blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
Your cousin on the other side of the country
Travels thousands of miles out of her way
To get rid of something
That she never wanted in the first place,
But you turn a blind eye,
Not daring to form an opinion,
Blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
Your mother-in-law has been sent to a country
She has never been to
For the crime of awaiting what is lawfully promised to her,
But all you do is give a loving shoulder for your wife to cry on,
And watch with dry eyes,
Blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
Your best friend will now be unable to have a family
With the love of her life
She is called an abomination,
A sinner,
A wretch,
But, with the knowledge that who you love will never be under scrutiny,
You watch in silence
As her dreams are crushed by a belief system she is not apart of,
Blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
You watch as your country becomes more divided by the day
You watch as everything is done in your favor
You enjoy the benefits and watch as others suffer the price
Of not being born like you
And one day,
When you finally wake up,
You find yourself cold and lonely,
Stuck in a world where everybody looks the same,
Talks the same,
And does the same
Because you were always blissfully unaware
That it affects you, too
