As temperatures dropped and spirits grew, people prepared to sit back and enjoy a show. Dec. 5 marked the calendars as the day of Canyon Choir's winter concert, “Sounds of the Season,” a performance of holiday cheer and excitement.
The performers were amped and nervous, yet they were determined to make this performance a memorable one. Kelly Caswell, Canyon’s choir teacher, was especially hopeful for the outcome of the show, saying, “I think it should be exciting for the concert goers, and they're going to hear a lot of songs that they already know.”
There were not only Christmas songs but Hanukkah ones as well. There were also songs sung in different languages! Speaking of songs, the choir performed a total of 20 songs!
Time flew by as the event lasted from 7-9 p.m, and intermission was around 8:30 p.m. During that intermission, a small bake sale occurred. The snacks were brought by volunteer students from each choir and were sold in the theater.
There were many key moments of the show. One was a small malfunction with a microphone during Russie Hughes’ solo “Blue Christmas.” Despite the complications, he was able to get straight into his performance easily and even waltzed with another member from the choir.
Another memorable moment was seeing how the show choir looked while wearing their comfiest pajamas during “Hot Chocolate!” The comfort was necessary as they did high kicks, gymnastics, and even a shocking half split.
At the end of the concert, all the seniors gathered up and bowed, which was a heartwarming moment to acknowledge their last winter concert.
Once the concert was all finished, and students were meeting back up with their parents, Maria Therese Quinones spoke for almost everyone when she expressed, "Throughout the performance, I felt joyful and proud of the kids on stage.”
Everyone did an amazing job on stage, especially when you realize many families and friends were out there watching. This striking performance filled with choreography and angelic voices was definitely one of the best ways to spark Christmas spirit!
