Did you enjoy the dark humor embedded with the murders and oddly sentimental moments during “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street?” Well then, Canyon Drama has one last funky but slightly more light-hearted musical for you to enjoy!
The dark comedy “Little Shop of Horrors," written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, begins with Seymour Krelbon, a geeky, awkward guy who works at a run-down flower shop in the dilapidated city known as Skid Row. He searches for any way to finally live a better life and maybe catch the attention of his crush, Audrey.
One day, he runs across a talking plant (Audrey II) who promises him his dream life under one condition: that she is to be solely fed human blood. Out of pure desperation, Seymor pushes aside his doubts and morals for a chance to have his dream life and girl. What’s the worst that could happen?
I spoke with Alexis Milak, the incredible actress that plays Audrey II, about what her favorite moment in the show is. She stated, “It definitely has to be when Seymore accepts Audrey II’s plan to get revenge on the Dentist. It's the catalyst for the whole plot—plus a really fun duet between Audrey II and Seymore!”
“Little Shop of Horrors” not only marks the end of Canyon Drama’s 2025-2026 season, but the final performance of 12 beloved seniors. While some recently joined the program, others have been dedicated since their freshman year.
Brooke Swan, the remarkable actress playing Audrey, recounts the most impactful lesson that Canyon Drama has taught her over the past four years: “The biggest (and corniest) thing I have learned is to have fun. It is so cliché, but I think that choosing to have fun has saved me a lot of heartache and seriousness in both theatre and in life.”
