As I enter my fourth and final year of high school, I have been reflecting on all the people I’ve met and become close with—as is usually the case with nostalgia-ridden adolescents on the brink of adulthood—and there is one girl who sticks out to me as I reminisce.
Whether it’s from her segments on Canyon News Network, her leadership roles in clubs like Math Honors Society and Girls Who Code, her unbridled passion for all things reading, or her role as my co-editor-in-chief for journalism, everyone knows Kayleigh Behar as a person with an unmistakable work ethic and an inextinguishable light.
Although she has many talents, Behar has a knack for all things news. She explains, “In a day and age where you can’t trust everything on the internet, I want to be the voice of reason. I want to be someone who can tell you what is going on and tell you both sides of the story.”
Behar has been a part of our News Network since her sophomore year, and throughout her three years, has racked up a pretty impressive resume: she’s done Cowboy Roundup, a weekly segment discussing the recap of events from over the weekend, runs CN90, and conducts interviews for club, sports, and event features.
As the Executive Producer, she oversees everything, from ensuring the live show runs smoothly to checking up on her fellow classmates to ensure they have a solid foundation for their segments. Her favorite out of all these responsibilities is “the Cowboy Roundup because it’s the most factual. I want to go into the news reporting side of broadcasting.”
Not only has she become one of the most notable and versatile reporters here at Canyon, but she’s hard at work by my side, helping me lead our journalism class alongside Ms. Mullins. Despite this only being her second year in journalism, she’s adapted greatly to the classroom’s different atmosphere and has become an amazing leader in such a short time. I, for one, don’t know how I would manage the class without her natural leadership skills and great ideas.
I applaud Behar for all of her hard work and dedication to everything that she does—Canyon wouldn’t be the same without you, Kayleigh!
